The Tab and Yomp has been designed to coincide with the 37th Anniversary of the break out from San Carlos by the Royal Marines (Yomp) to the Douglas Settlement and Paras (Tab) to Teal Inlet in 1982. The 2 days will cover 30 miles of the Dartmoor National Park with an overnight stay underneath the stars at Princetown.
Getting There: Both Teams will form up and start from Okehampton Army Camp, Camp Road, Okehampton EX20 1QP on Saturday morning. Each Team, Tab (Red) & Yomp (Green) will consist of 50 people, broken down into 3 groups. The first Group will start at 07.45, Second Group at 08:00 and the Third at 08:15. Groups will be based on fitness level and assigned a designated Leader.
Parking: This will be available at Okehampton Army Camp from 06.30 on 25th May 2019. All vehicles left on site must be fully insured and at the Owner’s Risk. If car parking is required please email Sam Cook at: email@example.com by 25th April 2019.
Registration will open at 06:45 and close at 07:30. If you are driving and leaving your car on site, please allow enough time to complete a security check and obtain a Car Pass.
Day 1 (25/05/19): Okehampton to Princetown (Plume of Feathers) 15.6m
Set off time from 07:45
Allow 8 hours walking time and a 45-minute break for lunch (Ration Pack which will be provided), water will be provided. If you have a dietary requirements, email firstname.lastname@example.org, we will do our best to accommodate them. Overnight accommodation will under the stars (tents provided), with a hot meal from the Field Kitchen.
Day 2 (25/05/19): Princetown to Ivybridge Station (Plume of Feathers) 14.4m
Set off time from 07:30
Allow 8 hours walking time and a 45-minute break for lunch (Ration Pack which will be provided), water will be provided. If you have a dietary requirement, email email@example.com, we will do our best to accommodate them.
On completion of your Tab or Yomp you will be greeted with a Finishers Challenge Coin, burger and beer/ soft drink. For those participants parked at Okehampton, coaches will be provided to get you back there via Plymouth Railway Station.
Health: Participants need to have a good standard of fitness, the distance and terrain on Dartmoor will be challenging. If you have any health concerns, please discuss with you GP before undertaking the challenge. Where possible Groups will consist of participants with a same level of fitness.
Suggested Kit List:
Bergan/ Day Sack 20 Ltr is sufficient
Rigid walking boots (broken in)
Thermal long sleeved top
Fleece mid layer or equivalent
Light insulated jacket
Waterproof jacket and trousers (light breathable model)
Gloves and warm hat
Water container (min 1Ltr)
Headtorch + batteries
Personal medication + blister kit, including zinc oxide tape
All participants enter into this event of their own will, understanding the arduous nature of the event. As such they must be medically fit to participate and take full responsibility for their own personal health and fitness.
Throughout the event, participants will be checked for their suitability to continue on grounds of capability including their equipment and state of health. If any of the marshals and medical staff believe that the safety of the individual will be compromised by their continued participation, they reserve the right to ask that person or persons to stop. If that person or persons continue on the route they will no longer be officially participating in the event and Care after Combat and associates take no further responsibility for their participation and state of health.
In the event of an accident or illness whilst taking part in this event, I hereby give permission for Care after Combat staff to initiate medical treatment and to inform my Next of Kin in case of hospitalisation.
To the best of my knowledge I submit a true and accurate description of my medical history and current condition. I understand that I am taking part in an event in a remote and rural location where there will be a longer medical response time in the event of emergency. I agree to take part in this event at my own risk and will not hold Care after Combat responsible in the event or acute illness, injury or death.
Participants must agree to inform Care after Combat of any medical or other condition that might affect their ability to take part in the event.
